The most common tarp is a poly tarp, with heavy and medium duty poly tarps available. Heavy duty tarps are used often for long term and strong protection, as these heavy duty poly tarps are waterproof, UV resistant, and rot resistant. While a heavy duty tarp can be used to cover any number of objects, some popular uses for heavy duty poly tarps include baseball tarps, hay tarps, boat tarps, RV tarps, and truck tarps. The main advantage of using a heavy duty poly tarp as a tarp cover is that, while the tarp is protecting the object, air can still circulate underneath the tarp to prevent mold, mildew, and dry rot from forming, especially if the vehicle or equipment is in storage for several months.
Not all poly tarps are heavy duty, and the next grade down is medium duty tarps. The most well-known medium duty tarp is a blue tarp. Blue tarps have a number of uses for short term coverage, although one of the most common uses for a medium duty blue tarp is as a hurricane roofing tarp. These blue tarps can serve as a temporary patch, and are often handed out before a hurricane, until a contractor can assess the damage. In the meantime, when a tarp is used to patch a roof, the house won’t experience any further water damage or mold inside.
Canvas tarps are the third type of tarp that we carry. Canvas tarps are heavy duty cotton tarps treated with Canvak to be water resistant and have inside and outside uses. Outdoors, a canvas tarp can cover equipment and vehicles, but, inside, a canvas tarp is used as a drop cloth for painting. As a drop cloth, a canvas tarp is more likely to stay in place and will protect your furniture and rugs from paint stains.
