Tarps have a number of uses but always serve as a type of cover. A poly tarp is best for long term or heavy-duty coverage, with silver and white being the most common. But, some specialty covers include baseball tarps to cover a baseball field from rain; boat tarps to protect a boat all winter; RV tarps; truck tarps to protect transported materials; and hurricane tarps. The poly tarps are the most common at Tarps1, with heavy and medium duty materials available. Heavy duty tarps are used often for long term and strong protection, as they are waterproof, UV resistant, and rot resistant. While one can be used to cover any number of objects, some popular uses include protecting baseball fields, truck loads, seasonal vehicles, and hay. The main advantage is that, while the tarp is protecting the object, air can still circulate underneath to prevent mold, mildew, and dry rot from forming, especially if the vehicle or equipment is in storage for several months.

Not all poly tarps are heavy duty, and the next grade down is medium. The blue tarps are the most well-known medium-duty variety. These have a number of uses for short term coverage, although one of the most common uses is as a hurricane roofing tarp. In this instance, they can serve as a temporary patch and are often handed out before a hurricane. One can be used until a contractor can assess the damage. In the meantime, the house won’t experience any further water damage or mold inside.

Canvas tarps are the third type that we carry. These are made from heavy-duty cotton duck treated with Canvak to be water resistant and have inside and outside uses. Outdoors, one can cover equipment and vehicles, but, inside, the best use is as a drop cloth for painting. For this use, a canvas tarp is more likely to stay in place and will protect your furniture and rugs from paint stains.
