Tarps 1

Don't Be Timid With Heavy Duty Tarps

Tarp1 has a wide assortment of what you need. Durable waterproof tarps are manufactured in varying sizes, materials and colors. Their most common uses occur in farming, trucking, covers for motorcycles, cars, boats, outdoor dining, garage sales, swap meets, and the list goes on! Poly material makes them waterproof. Tarps on our site can be had in quantities as few as one or multiple pallets.

To give you an idea of weight, we've broken down the sizes to give you a better idea of what you will be carrying. For instance, 5x7 silver poly heavy duty tarps will weight about 2 pounds. The same tarp in the larger 100 x 100 weighs 344 pounds. These bigger sizes come in handy when covering ball fields, hay bales, and construction equipment. Still, consider what a canvas tarp that size would be and you are talking serious handling issues. Canvas tarps are considerably heavier in weight than poly. It isn't a problem if you can spare the manpower or have the machinery to fold and unfold.

Handling heavy, large Waterproof Tarps

In the best situations, large and awkward ground and building heavy duty tarps are handled by mechanical devices such as cranes or lulls. That isn't always possible. Try these steps when manually folding heavy duty tarps:

  • Split the group evenly to line up at the shorter ends, standing on the tarp, facing outward
  • Grasp the edges firmly, keeping low to the ground, until they approach the center
  • Leave a 2 to 3 inch gap down the middle to permit folding further
  • Walk off the tarp down the center strip, in single file
  • Line up again on the short sides, repeating the process, with each fold inch before the previous edge
  • When the halves are no more than 2 or 3 feet wide, have everyone line up along one long edge and fold the tarp in half
  • Flatten out the air by walking across it several times
  • Select a group of people to again stand at the short end and roll towards the other end.

Large waterproof tarps will load easier onto a platform or cart if you place the end onto it prior to beginning the rolling process. It is much less strain to roll something heavy than lift it.
