Tarps 1

White Tarp and Light

White reflects light. This we all know. Silver tarps do so too. The difference is a white tarp will reduce the heat and rays of the sun, while not totally blocking light to enter. This can come in handy when using it as a temporary shelter or roof where you want to see without squinting. The lighter the material, the more opaque the tarp is. White poly tarp density is determined by the mils: 6 mils are less protective than 8 ounces, as you can imagine. Campers would do well with either the standard or heavy duty wholesale tarp.

White Poly Tarp Additional Uses

Are you building a small boat and thinking about a convertible roof? White poly tarp may be just what you are looking for. The white model already has sewn seams with grommets placed strategically, making tie-down easy with bungee cords or pulled like a shade. It will permit the cabin area to be closed and private while remaining lit; without the sun beating down. Whether heavy duty or standard weights will be determined by the area (i.e.: lake, river, ocean) and the usual maximum wind velocity generated as you drive your craft.

Silver Tarps are Cool

Actually, with the exception of its inability (which is actually its biggest advantage) to provide ambient light, there is little difference in the two tarps. Silver tarps can be used to keep items cooler than the white tarp can: because of the failure of light to penetrate. Wrap frozen or other food to keep cold in a silver heavy duty tarp, with ice, and chances are it will maintain an adequate temperature for hours longer than other heavy duty tarps.
